Aotearoa Embodiment Collective
Aotearoa Embodiment Collective came to life when Miriam Marler and me started dreaming about a studio in town . I was already practising my massages from my sleep out and felt it was time to get a space more accessible for clients. We found the room and looked together and could imagine setting up a studio in there. The walls were bare the floor not done... Our vision was always to have other practitioners in the space to have a collective space a Healing Hub in the centre of town where people can come and heal move and connect to their souls. After Covid Lockdown 2020 this became a reality. We now have multiple practitioners using the space at different times.
Collaboration with Miriam Marler
My close friend, sister, business partner, colleague and movement buddy Special to share so many dances of life together with this Lady! Miriam and me have been exploring the realms of Contact Improvisation and Acrobatics together since 2017 and this journey resulting in our Acro Flow course for beginners, and our ContactAcro Fusion course (open level) in which we explored these connections first @ Studio Tula and since offered this movement form at several festivals throughout the South Island of New Zealand and facilitated weekly classes in Dunedin. Together we started to developed Conscious Contact (2018) Giving time for connection to build, learning about how things feel in the body today and how to move within your own safety whilst meeting another. In 2020 when this developed more into journeys for couples/partners ,in touch/ intimacy and massage; Partner therapeutics and deep listening skills. with the closeness of the exercises we offered. With the gentle approach and consciousness this brings we love re- connecting people with the wisdom of their body through movement. Allowing the subtle energies to surface, deepening the connection of our clients with their own inner landscape.
We have co-taught taster classes and workshops at 2018 Circulation Festival, Joy of vulnerability 2018, Motueka's New Year’s Mix Festival 2018, the NZ Contact Retreat 2019, Luminate 2019, the Aotearoa Conscious Dance Festival in April 2019, and Autumn Arena 2019, Circulation 2020 . The fascination between softness and connection in contrast with the strength needed for stacked poses, and the potential for fluidity between the two movement practices continues to attract our attention and fuels motivation for working together further.
